Overview
Introduction and History of Nutrition & Food Security Research Center:
For the past two decades, members of the School of Nutrition have been working on obesity prevention and treatment, enrichment of bread with iron, identification and treatment of iodine deficiency in vulnerable groups in Isfahan province. The Food Security Research Center was established on 22 July 2009 followed by its final approval that took place in 202nd meeting of the Council for Development of Medical Universities on April 26, 2019. The aim of creating this center was to promote research in various basic and applied fields of nutrition science from both qualitative and quantitative aspects with the optimum goal of improving community health.
In its first year of operation, the center gained 658.46 points compared to other research centers under the category of centers with less than one year (approved 2010) and also earned the most points compared to the research centers under the category of less than three years (approved 2008 onwards). Finally, at the 224th meeting of the Council for the Development of Medical Sciences Universities at the ministry of Health on 13 May 2013, the center was finally approved for 5 years. In 2012 and 2013, the center won the first rank among the Biomedical Research Centers with 1 to 3 years of biomedical experience at the national level. The center also won the first rank among its peer research centers at the Isfahan University of Medical Sciences from 2010 to 2018.
At the two hundred and seventy-fifth meeting (275th) of the Council for the Development of Medical Sciences Universities at the Ministry of Health on 3 November 2019, it was granted another approval to extend the license by the next five years.
Based on the vote issued in the 286th meeting of the Development Council of the Medical Sciences Universities , a definitive agreement was reached to change the title from "Food Security Research Center” to "Nutrition and Food Security Research Center”.

Vision:
The food security research center of Isfahan University of medical sciences is going to enhance the nutrition status and food security of the province and country through conducting high quality research projects based on unique and provincial priority issues. Furthermore, maintenance of its first position among research centers in the province and promotion of its research position in the country are the other aims.
Mission:
The mission of food security research center is to determine research priorities according to the community needs, conduct nutritional investigations to promote community food security, prevention and treatment of non-communicable diseases (especially obesity and overweight, diabetes and cardiovascular disease), and finally improving the community health and enhancing the quantitative and qualitative level of research activities of the center's researchers.
